Terms of Use

Last updated: 14 June 2025

These terms explain how you can use Football Law (football-law.com) and what you can expect from us in return. They are written in plain English on purpose. By using this site, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please stop using the site.

Who we are

Football Law is a new, independent website about the laws, money and stories of football. We write about things like the Laws of the Game, refereeing decisions, transfer rules, financial regulations, club ownership and the history behind them. Throughout these terms, “we”, “us” and “our” mean the people who run this site, and “you” means anyone reading or using it.

Using our content

Everything we publish is for personal, non-commercial information and interest. You are welcome to:

  • Read, share and discuss our articles.
  • Quote short extracts with clear credit to Football Law.
  • Print or save a page for your own reference.

You may not:

  • Copy or republish whole articles, or large parts of them, on another website, app, newsletter or social account without our written permission.
  • Sell, license or otherwise make money from our content.
  • Present our work as your own, or remove any credit attached to it.
  • Use our content to train or feed automated tools, scrapers or datasets without permission.

Unless we say otherwise, the text, layout and original graphics on this site belong to us.

This is not professional advice

Despite the name, Football Law is not a law firm, and nothing on this site is legal advice. Reading an article here does not create any professional or client relationship with us.

The same goes for money. When we write about transfer fees, wages, club finances, financial rules or betting markets, we are explaining and commenting. We are not giving financial, investment, tax or betting advice.

If you are dealing with a real dispute, contract, disciplinary case or financial decision, speak to a qualified professional who can look at your specific situation.

Accuracy and changes to content

We work hard to get things right and to check facts against reliable sources. Football moves quickly, though. Rules are amended, competitions change their regulations, transfer figures are revised and reported numbers often turn out to be estimates.

That means:

  • Some information may be out of date by the time you read it.
  • Figures such as fees and wages are frequently reported rather than officially confirmed, and we try to say so when that is the case.
  • We may update, correct or remove articles at any time without notice.

If you spot a mistake, we genuinely want to know about it so we can fix it. We do not promise that every page is complete, current or error-free.

Opinions and commentary

Some of what we publish is analysis or opinion. Where we give a view on a refereeing call, a ruling or a club’s decision, it is our view, based on the information available when we wrote it. You are free to disagree.

Trademarks and third-party names

Football is full of protected names and marks. Club names and crests, competition names, governing body names and logos, kit brands and sponsor names all belong to their respective owners.

We mention them because you can’t write about football without them. Using these names does not mean we are affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any club, league, governing body, player or company, unless we clearly say so.

External links and third-party content

From time to time we may refer to other websites, documents or services. We don’t control them, and we aren’t responsible for their content, accuracy, privacy practices or availability. Visiting a third-party site is your choice and happens under that site’s own terms.

If we ever include advertising or sponsored content, we will make it clear what it is.

Acceptable use

Please use this site the way it is meant to be used. You agree not to:

  • Try to hack, overload, disrupt or gain unauthorised access to the site or its systems.
  • Upload or send anything containing viruses, malware or harmful code.
  • Use bots or scrapers to copy content in bulk.
  • Use the site for anything unlawful, fraudulent or abusive.
  • Impersonate us or anyone else.

If we offer comments or other ways to contribute, keep it civil. No harassment, hate speech, threats, spam or defamatory claims about real people. We can remove anything that breaks these rules and block access for anyone who repeatedly ignores them. Anything you post remains yours, but you give us permission to display it on the site.

Limitation of liability

In plain words: we provide this site as it is, for free, and we can’t guarantee it will always be available, accurate or free of errors.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not responsible for any loss or damage that comes from:

  • Relying on anything you read here.
  • Being unable to access the site.
  • Visiting any third-party website we mention.
  • Any technical problem, interruption or harmful code that gets past reasonable precautions.

Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have that the law says cannot be excluded or limited.

Privacy

Any personal information we collect is handled as described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of how this site operates alongside these terms.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the site grows or the law changes. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms, so it’s worth checking back now and then.

If part of these terms doesn’t apply

If any section of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies.

Thanks for reading Football Law. We hope you find the site useful.
